Okay so you’ve come to London for a few days and need to know what to try. Here’s my top 10 dishes that I absolutely crave in the big city. Be prepared for your mouth to water my friends and make sure you save this for later!
I’ve never pegged myself as a ramen girl, the soup gets me too hot and I’m a slurpy mess when I eat it but wow this truffle ramen from Kanada-Ya is incredible. Don’t forget to get the extra egg!
Croque Monsieur – Dominique Ansel Bakery
It’s not cheap but it is worth every penny. It’s dramatic to say this sandwich changed my life but I’m pretty sure it did plus there’s loads of glorious cakes you can pick for dessert!
Homemade parmesan, pecorino and basil pesto – Emilia’s Pasta
I discovered homemade pasta in 2019 and thank f*ck for that to put it bluntly. Emilia’s Pasta is a very popular spot in Aldgate and I can see why. With a fair few pasta’s to choose from I recommend this pesto delight.
Dynamite Shrimp – Pf Changs Asian Table
This. Shrimp. Is. Bang. Ing. Pop in for dinner, a drink, pre-theatre nibbles, whatever you like, just make sure you get the dynamite shrimp!
Being a massive fan of the greek islands where the gyros is 2EUR, you won’t find those kind of prices in London but when it comes to tasta, don’t bother going anywhere but The Athenian. I go for pork but they have loads of options as well as a little vegan number!
This is the best brunch in London. I stand by it to this very day. Sadly if you work you have to pop in mid-week as they aren’t open on the weekends but I think I’d go as far to say as the brunch is worth an annual leave day from work.
Barbecued Baby Gem, Garlic Aioli, Capers – Madame Pigg
Anyone and everyone in East London has to try Madame Pigg. It’s hard to pick my favourite dish here between the prawns and this baby gem (vegan btw) but I think this just steals the win. The vegan mayo is delicious and the combination of spices and chargrilled taste is just amazing. They also do a mean roast so book in advance to avoid missing out on a table!
Sweet tooth? Look no further than Mamasons. Not only are they super fun on their instagram account @mamasonsdirtyicecream but the Ube hot choc is to die for. Plus the interiors provide a pretty cute spot to watch the busy tourists in soho walk by.
Tiramisu – Cecconis Pizza Bar Soho
For a soho house joint, the. pizza bar is very affordable and that tiramisu is just mm mm mmmm. They bring it out in a tray and scoop by the portion but the melt in your mouth textures and coffee flavours, well let’s just say they are a vibe.
Cheese Crumpets – Beara Beara Cafe
A very recent discovery and now one of my favourite places. A cheese inspired menu and very reasonably priced coffee, this will definitely become a very popular spot in Angel. These crumpets are mildly beer soaked, topped with cheese and sexy as hell.
Enjoy!
