Review: Brother Marcus

Oh Brother may ?

A few weeks back I went to meet @NotSoBasicLondon for brunch and if you haven’t read her blog yet then make sure you do because there are some serious foodie finds there! It was safe to say that I knew I wasn’t going to be disappointed with any of her suggestions from her track record but also as soon as she suggested Brother Marcus I more or less said “omg yeessssssss”. I’ve seen so many photos of this place on some famous foodie Instagram accounts and after one read of the menu, my mouth was watering and I was sold.

Take a look for yourself: Make my mouth water

Brother Marcus is based in Balham and don’t be fooled by the small front it puts up. This place get real busy and they really utilise the space well. They also have a heated outdoor section and we were lucky enough to be sitting right next to a heater as it wasn’t the warmest of days. Apart from the occasional very loud thunder of the trains passing over head or below (can’t be sure really – out of sight, out of mind but certainly very much not out of sound) the outside area was certainly very charming. We shared a table with another couple – very wagamama’s style and definitely didn’t feel like we were intruding their meal or them us.

As you can see from the menu the choice’s were extremely hard. This was an alcohol free brunch as I was currently partaking in Sober for October but we decided to pick two dishes and then share a Bressert (breakfast + dessert = bressert), something I learnt from Charlotte.

So if you hadn’t already guessed, we picked…

  • Marcus Breakfast – Pork Belly, Fried Egg, Cucumber, Spring Onion, Sriracha and Tomato Relish in Cretan Pitta
  • Step Sister – Sweet Potato, Courgette and Feta Fritters, Avocado, Spinach, Kale, Tumeric Yoghurt and Poached Eggs.
  • Sugar Daddy (for Bressert) – Cinnamon French Toast Crumpets with Caramalised Bananas. This one actually isn’t on the online menu but ask in store and they should be able to rustle it up for you!

Honestly, fucking fantastic.

It’s the first time I’ve had a cretan pitta that I know of and I certainly enjoyed all the filling, being an Asian, the sriracha stole my heart and taste buds obvs. The eggs were also well poached and runny just like you’d want them to be but let’s all take a second to appreciate the crumpets…

*moment silence*

I have never tasted crumpets like that before. I don’t think either of us had. I can’t even remember how many times we said oh my or wow but it was a lot and it deserved all of them.

BRA-VO

Are you ready for some photo’s that will make you weep? Yep? Ok.
